Read out loud or to yourself?

I don’t normally read out load, especially when I’m in public. I don’t wish to disturb the other people around me by reading out loud so I’ll just read silently to myself. Even when I’m at home, I’ll still read silently to myself. If my hubby is home, especially because I don’t want to disturb him while he’s trying to watch one of his tv shows. But even if I’m alone when I’m at the house, I’ll still read silently to myself because I think it’s just become a habit by this point. Plus, I think I just enjoy the quiet because I deal with so little of it when I’m at my job. But by reading quietly to myself, I don’t have to worry about anyone complaining about my book being too loud. That’s the other thing I like about reading….it’s a quiet activity for when I want peace and quiet.

  1. When I was younger I would read out loud but that was when I was really young and reading out loud was something we all did as we used to read to our teachers and our parents. As I got older though, my mum would get me into the habit of reading to myself so that I was able to read whenever and wherever I was without disturbing anyone. Now I read silently all the time.
