Booking Process:
Grab your popcorn, but don’t just start eating it yet. I am going to start this review about the Meg 2 by discussing the booking process, which cinema provider and a general lead up to how I landed myself on the edge of my seat while watching.
I booked my Cinema Ticket today with Cineworld to go and watch the Meg 2. I didn’t really have a lot to loose, as Cineworld in the UK lets you watch all the films that your heart desires for under 20$ monthly. Pretty good, right? For my American readers, when I am referring to Cinema, I mean theatre movie. Upon entering the Cinema, as usual I avoid the overpriced snacks and opted to bring my own in.
As per usual, there was around 30 minutes of advertisements and upcoming trailers before the film actually started. This isn’t the creators fault, as all movies that are shown in Cinemas in the UK have trailers and ads prior.
Meg 2 Review:
I was pleasantly surprised by the sequel to the first Meg, which I had given a generous rating of 6/10. The casting choices in the first film seemed to prioritize drawing viewership rather than showcasing Statham’s signature action style. However, in Meg 2, Statham shines right from the opening scene and continues to deliver action-packed moments throughout the rest of the film, along with several other thrilling action sequences. Fans of Statham will certainly be satisfied with the level of action presented in this sequel.
Additionally, the humor in this film surpasses that of its predecessor, which often fell short. In Meg 2, there were many instances where we found ourselves genuinely laughing out loud. While there were a few misses here and there, the comedy mostly hit the mark and was well-placed and executed.
The story maintains a constant sense of suspense, providing limited breaks for viewers to catch their breath. With the advertisements and trailers, it was over 2 hours of runtime and fortunately managed to hold the bladder throughout the movie. Quite literally sat on the edge of my seat, not wanting to miss any cliff hangers. It is worth mentioning that there are some clichés, a few plot holes, and some cheesy sub-plots, but overall, this sequel offers much more entertainment value, is incredibly enjoyable, and displays better directorial choices than its predecessor.
Overall thoughts:
All performances and casting choices are decent, and the special/visual effects are even more impressive compared to the first film. Considering these factors, I can confidently recommend this movie and give it a well-deserved rating of 8/10. It is undeniably more entertaining and authentic when compared to the significantly higher-budget, Fast X franchise.
