I try really hard not to let it. It would be really easy for me to get absorbed in whatever book I’m currently reading that I would loose track of time. If that happened, then I’d miss work (or at least make myself late) because I’m too busy reading to pay attention to the time. I’m sure my boss at work would be calling me at some point if I was late or missing from work because I don’t normally miss. And if I was a repeat offender when it comes to being late for work or missing work, I’m sure it would end up on my evaluation or end with me receiving a write up from my boss (too many write ups and you’d get fired, especially if you get too many write ups for the same thing).
Reading has always been a form of entertainment for me but in recent years it has also become a source of relaxation or a way to de-stress. However, I have to not let myself choose reading over going to work (even though I’d rather stay at home and read) because reading doesn’t help me pay the bills unfortunately and going to work every day does. If I could get paid to stay at home and read every day, then that would be a different story….
