“Tales from the Cafe” by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

I finished reading this book last night before I went to bed. I did enjoy the book as evident that it didn’t take long for me to read. What intrigues me about the story is that people are allowed to travel back in time to meet anyone they wish, however, they won’t be able to change the outcome of the present or their future by doing so. Plus, they have to drink their coffee before it gets cold while they are back in the past so they only have mere minutes to spend with the person they’re going to see. There are all kinds of rules for traveling back in time that the person has to follow or things can go south.

I also want to mention that this book is a sequel to “Before the Coffee gets Cold” by the same author and it’s part of a series. I had found this book at my local bookstore but I had realized that it was a sequel and the bookstore didn’t have the sequel at the time. So I ended up buying this book and the first book online so I could have them at the same time.

{Note: This book may be enjoyed more by an adult audience than any younger audience. There is at least 1 subject within the book that may be considered an adult topic by some.}

Synopsis: From the author of the international bestseller Before the Coffee Gets Cold, this book follows four new customers who hope to travel back in time in a little Japanese café.

In a back alley in Tokyo, there is a café that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. Local legend says that this shop offers something else besides coffee—the chance to travel back in time.

With faces both familiar and new, Tales from the Cafe follows the story of four patrons who visit to take advantage of café Funiculi Funicula’s time-traveling offer and revisit moments with family, friends and lovers. Each one must face up to the past to move on with their lives.

Kawaguchi’s wistful and heartwarming new novel once again invites the reader to ask themselves, “What would you do if you could travel back in time?”

    1. It’s definitely an interesting series. It’s a little different that what I normally read, however, it is still a good series. You’d probably like it. If you are unsure if you’d like it or not, you could try checking it out from the library. That way, you’re not out any money from purchasing it if you don’t end up liking it.
