New Year, New Goals!

Here were are again. It’s that time to set some new goals for myself now that we’re beginning a new year. I know every year I say I’m going to read more books than I did last year. Sometimes I make it and sometimes I don’t….but I at least try to give it the ol’ college try. Hey……I think I deserve an “A” for effort for trying at least.

In recent years, I’ve tried to branch out and read something that is out of my normal comfort zone. Like, I started reading poetry the first year and so far I’ve enjoyed it (or I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far). The next year year I started reading historical fiction once in a while and so far I’ve enjoyed that too. I got some new books that I’ve recently purchased with a gift card that I got for Christmas from my hubby and they’re definitely different from the stuff I normally read (these books just showed up yesterday). Don’t worry, I’ll get to reading them soon enough so you’ll get to see what I got but I think I’m going to let these be a surprise. I think this may be a tradition I’ll continue……trying to read something outside of my comfort zone.

I’m going to try to read in a different format. I have plenty of books on my shelves…..but I also have plenty of e-books on my Kindle Fire. I hope to try to read more of the e-books then I did last year. I know I’ve mentioned before that I like using my Kindle Fire to take reading with me when I’m traveling. But I haven’t taken a trip since Covid-19 showed up and I don’t want my Kindle Fire to just sit there and collect dust. So, I’m going to make it a goal to utilize my Kindle more this year.

Do you have any reading goals? If so, what are they? If you don’t mind, please share in the comments below…….

  1. Definitely ‘A’ for effort! I read less books last year, but managed to tackle some of the big ones I’d avoided for a while. I’m going to continue focusing on what I actually want to read, rather than the number of books. You’ve also inspired me to read more outside of my comfort zone – I will try to do that as well.

    1. I’m trying to do that as well……focusing on what I want to read. I am going to continue the tradition this year of trying new things but I’m being selective of what I’m choosing outside of my normal reading material. I’ve got so much stuff on my TBR pile that I can’t add everything so I’m just picking certain things or maybe focusing on certain authors.

I have never been the one for making New year’s resolutions but I have one plan for this year 2023 and it’s to cut down on my alcoholic beverages drinking habit.

As for my reading habits, I’m currently reading Fire & Blood by George R.R Martin. Once I have it completed, I’m going to pick up either A Dance with Dragons or The Rise of the Dragon: An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty, Vol. One.

Some very good goals this year! I’d always recommend reading quality books rather than quantity.
