I just found out this morning that this particular author has passed away. He is one of my favorite authors ever since I read his series the Wardstone Chronicles. I was saddened to hear the news and my sympathy goes out to his family, friends and everyone that was close to him. I’m sure he will be missed. I’ve posted below his picture and summary that they posted on Facebook about his passing…

“It is with deep sadness I share with you that Joe passed away on the 16th of August after a private battle with cancer.
It was his wish that his illness be known only to a few and he continued to write and fulfill his obligations to his publisher and engage with his readers right to the end.
Joe had a dark and vivid imagination that belied his gentle and caring nature and was a thoughtful and generous man. He was always willing to answer questions from readers and attend school, library and book signing events where he was often surrounded by enthusiastic readers discussing a complex plot development or potential story arc. He was passionate about writing and was frequently told by his audience that his books had been instrumental in their discovery of a love of reading or helped through a difficult period. Joe was a humble man and despite his success remained firmly steeped in his Lancashire roots from which he drew much of his inspiration, although he did hate the rain!
Sincere condolences to his family who have lost a wonderful husband, father/friend, grandfather, brother and uncle and to his readers to whom he gave so much joy and inspiration.
Thanks Joe, for all that you are and have done.
‘Won’t be the same without you.’ Alice, The Spook’s Apprentice.”
