How Literature is One of the Seven Deadly Sins

I am an avid reader (and have been since I first learned to read). There are days when I would rather stay at home and read instead of going to work, however, I know that won’t help my situation with paying the bills. I don’t take any literature with me to work because I fear it would be too much of a temptation to read instead of doing my work so I leave the reading at home.

My other temptation is I have a tendency to read at bed time. If I don’t put the book down at some point then I’ll end up staying up way too late and not getting enough sleep. Then I’m dragging at work the next day from being tired. It’s not happened to me too often. Normally, if I stay up reading, I do it when I don’t have to work the next day so it doesn’t matter if I stay up too late.

So, I have to make sure my love for reading doesn’t get me into trouble at my job. Other than that, I’m all good. What about you? Are you allowed to read at work if you get all your work done? Have you ever stayed up too late reading?

  1. Love the title, haha! I read every night before bed, and most times I’m too tired to let myself stay up too late. I did that a lot when I was younger though, to the dismay of my parents.

    1. I’ve done it I don’t know how many times as a kid. I did get caught one and my dad gave me a speech about it would ruin my eye sight trying to read in the dark. I’d hard stopping yourself, especially when you get to a good spot in the book.

  2. My job never really has down time so no opportunity to just read. I read as part of my down time for evening. I genuinely love the feeling of getting sucked into a good book that I prioritize it above most things. It doesn’t happen too often though and the practice of reading helps me clear my head for the evening.

    1. The same goes for me. I don’t ever have any down time at my work so there is no opportunity to read for me (not at work anyway). But I generally like to read in the even, especially right before I got to bed to catch some sleep. I do this on purpose because it helps me relax so that I can go to sleep faster.
