The Fireside Chats

There are times I’ve gone through and given my top favorite literature in some form or fashion. Well, in this article I’m going to give you my least favorite literature. It doesn’t happen very often that I don’t like a particular book but it does happen. The following list is in no particular order.

• “The Night Strangers” by Chris Bohjalian = I read this book several years ago and I have refused to read anything from Chris Bohjalian since then. The story was okay…..it was the ending that just blew me away. I was thinking that the book was going to be some sort of ghost story but it ended up being something completely different with a horrible ending.
• “The Catcher in the Rye” by J. D. Salinger = This is a book I read this year and I wasn’t really impressed. I found the main character to be immature but that’s probably not a surprise. I’m an adult and the main character is a teenager dealing with some angst throughout the book.
• “The Mile End Murder” by Sinclair McKay = I tried reading this book last year and I wasn’t able to get through it. It’s rare for me to not be able to finish a book. This book got so bogged down in details that I just couldn’t finish it and I gave up before I got half way through the book.
• “The Only Good Indians” by Stephen Graham Jones = This was another book I started but couldn’t finish. It just got really crazy about half way through and it kind of put me off. It may have something to do with the fact that this book received such high praise that it raised my expectations a little.
