Book snobbery?

How do you feel about book snobbery?

A book snob is known as a person who scoffs at mainstream or popular titles. Or they’re someone who trashes books they think aren’t “literary” enough.

I’m someone who reads because I find the book entertaining (and also because I find reading to be relaxing). If you don’t like what someone reads that’s fine. Nobody is going to make you read that book if you don’t want to. I won’t force what I like on someone else. I’ll make recommendations if someone asks me for a suggestion…..but I won’t force it down someone else’s throat. My point is to read what you want to read. If someone else doesn’t like it then let them not like it. If you’re a Harry Potter fan or you like a specific manga/anime or you like Stephen King, then read on!

I know plenty of book snobs! I just try to not engage with them because I enjoy what I enjoy. So waht if I like Young Adult books to read from time to time? That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate true works of literary art.

    1. Agreed! I like what I like….that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate other things. It just means I have certain things that I like. Like the old saying, “Live and let live”.

I had to reply to this one lol I read what interests ME. Why should I read a specific book that others are trying to pressure me into reading? Time is too precious & life is too short to not do what we like. I have read a wide variety of books, & yes, some were manga. Of course I had to get used to reading the Japanese versions backwards lol

    1. I never cared much about who liked what or why not. I’ve just enjoyed reading what I wanted to read.
