How literature can keep you out of trouble

Here are some uses for how literature can keep you out of trouble…

First, it can help keep you on good terms with your neighbors. We’ve all had noisy neighbors at one time or another….whether they’ve lived beside us, behind us or on the floor above us (if you’ve ever lived in an apartment complex). It stinks when you’re trying to go to sleep and that noisy neighbor comes strolling in at 2 in the morning with their stereo blaring at full blast. Literature is a quiet hobby that won’t disturb others around you. How many people you know complain about your book being “too loud”?

I’m pretty sure this was my upstairs neighbor in the last apartment I lived in.

Second, literature can give you something to talk about with other people where you might not have something to talk about otherwise. You might find another Harry Potter fan when you bump into someone wearing a Harry Potter t-shirt. Or you might find someone who is a horror fan because they have a tattoo of their favorite horror character on their arm.

Last, but not least, you can always have something to do when the power goes out, you need something to do on that airplane ride, etc. You can have something to occupy your time with when there is little or nothing else to do. In my opinion, reading is another form of entertainment, just like watching your favorite tv shows or movies.
