Audio books

Should audio books count towards your reading list? Why or why not? How often do you listen to an audio book? Do you prefer audio books as opposed to reading an actual hard copy or an e-book? If so, why?

I don’t really listen to any audio books. My commute to work is really short……so it would take me forever to get through a book if I listened to it. I might get through 1 or 2 books a year at that rate. Now, if I had a longer commute to get to my job then that would be different. I guess this is why I don’t really listen to audio books. I don’t have that much of a commute and I’m already reading an actual book when I get home from work.

  1. Is there any difference in reading a physical book compared to an e-book on your short journeys? If I was in your situation, I would perhaps read an e-book as I could have it on my phone, therefore, nothing extra to carry to work.

I am old fashioned when it comes to reading as I like to use it for escapism away from the world, which I would not get as much if I’m using an audiobook on my device.

    1. I drive to work everyday so I think it would not be appropriate to read while I’m driving (regardless if it’s an e-book or an actual book). Now, if I rode a bus or train to work….then I can see putting a book on my phone to help pass the time while I’m commuting. But I can’t do anything on my commute to work unless it’s an audio book.

Why do you think you would not get the same escapism? I recently started with audiobooks (after a free trial on Audible) and I’m hooked! It’s so much easier to listen rather than read. For one, you don’t have to worry about bumping in to something whilst walking and you can listen in the car whilst driving. Some readers are exceptional with their voices. The only drawback is missing something vital if distracted and needing to read something again to understand it. If wager if you try audiobooks you’ll love them.

      1. I think audio books are okay. Like, some people would be able to listen to an audio book while doing chores around the house. You can get your chores done and still listen to a book being read to you to get your escapism. For instance, I could listen to an audio book while I’m doing laundry or washing dishes.
