Introverts and reading

Do people who tend to be more introverted….do they tend to read more than people who are extroverted? Why or why not?

I’ve always been on the introverted side of the spectrum….kind of reserved. I was painfully shy as a kid. It was to the point that people would ask my parents if I ever talked. I talked when someone spoke to me first but I was never the person who struck up a conversation first. I was always someone who preferred to read. I’m not saying I’m anti social…I’m just not as outgoing as some other folks out there.

What about you? Do you prefer a good book over someone else’s company? Or are you the opposite?

  1. As a (general) rule, I prefer reading a good book over having a conversation. I have little tolerance for shallow small talk.

I’m not sure which side actually reads more because I know some big time readers on both sides. I’m an introvert and if I had the choice between a book and a person I’d choose the book to avoid the person. With that said, I haven’t read a lot lately because I’ve been doing crafts but soon enough the winter days will be here and I’ll get my Kindle out again and start reading.

    1. I kind of figured that people who were more introverted were more likely to read since they were more reserved and not as talkative as the extroverted. But you could be right though. I read a lot all the time. There’s not really a day that goes by that I’m not reading. Now there may be days that I’ll get to read more than others….

  3. I used to consider myself introvert but the lockdown time taught me I have this deep feeling of connecting with various people. So consider myself an ambivert. I prefer reading various stuff including fiction and also the psychological non fiction books which are specific to motivation and grit. I have recently started reading a lot of books which motivates me and also the short stories. I think introverts read all type of content and it’s hard to think of introvert from one specific angle for their choice of books.

    1. That’s true. While an introvert may enjoy reading, it’s hard to tell what they like until you get to know that person. You never know till you talk to that person.

  4. I would probably say that a lot of people who like to read are more introverted but that doesn’t mean extroverts don’t like to read either. Personally, I see myself as more introverted and I do like to read but I never get the chance to. With my studies, I am kept busy with academic readings so maybe when I am finished I will have more time and energy to read for pleasure. I hope so because I enjoy the inner peace it gives me.

    1. I think that’s why I like reading so much…because I find it so peaceful. I hope you get to enjoy reading again one day when you are done with your studies and have more time for it.
