Reading pet peeves

What are some pet peeves that you have when it comes to reading? If so, what are they? Would you be willing to share them?

I don’t like the fact that someone will interrupt me while I’m reading, especially if I get to a good part of the book. But then again, if I don’t want to be interrupted then I’ll just read at home instead of reading out in public so that someone can’t stop me from reading.

I do hate it when someone reveals the ending of a book before I’ve finished reading it. That’s probably the main thing for me. I hate it when someone reveals spoilers. This was the hardest when the final Harry Potter novel came out. I had to avoid everyone else reading it like the plague to keep from hearing the ending in case they finished the novel before I did.

I’m like you in that I don’t want to be interrupted while reading and especially while reading something that is really fun to get into. Don’t destroy my moment! I like getting caught up in the different worlds that books bring and when someone brings me back to this world, it’s like waking up from a comfortable dream to a loud alarm clock. I don’t mind spoiled endings because I like to peek at the ends sometimes when I just can’t wait to know what’s going to happen! I think one other pet peeve I do have is books with pages that have stickiness on them from people eating. That kind of thing is really gross knowing that they didn’t take the time to wash their hands.

    1. I’m kind of anal about washing my hands. My hubby always jokes that I always look like I’m prepping for surgery every time I wash my hands. Just to be clear, I was this way before COVID-19 set in. Because of what I do everyday at work, I’m always washing my hands. If I am unable to wash my hands, then I’ll at least use hand sanitizer.

  2. My biggest issue is that these days I cant read any book for more than 10 minutes. I read books in batch of short time. I have also developed habit of taking notes out for non-ficiton books. But while reading fiction books this habit affects me and keeps me from completing the book. So I am just learning to adjust with such flow of mine affecting my book reading.

    1. I don’t get to read as much as I would like sometimes. I could read all day long but I have to go to work unfortunately. Reading it so peaceful. I think that’s why I enjoy it.

  3. I really hate when people are talking or there is noise when I am trying to read something. It has always happened in school when you are given something on the whiteboard to read, but the teacher continues to talk anyway. My brain can only focus on one thing at a time!

    1. I’m the same way. That’s why I don’t go read out in public all that much. There’s usually too much noise going on. My brain can only focus on one thing at a time as well. However, I’m use to my hubby watching tv in the background. That doesn’t bother me as much because he watches tv all the time. Plus, I can go in the spare bedroom where all my books are if I really wanted to get away from the noise anyway.
