Reading versus movie/tv show

The question today is, which do you prefer…….reading the book or watching the movie/tv series. I, personally, enjoy reading the book. Reading is something I’ve enjoyed my whole entire life. Hollywood has taken to making these books into a movie or tv show of some kind, which is fine by me. I don’t mind watching a movie based on a book if I enjoyed the book. If I didn’t like the book, then you wouldn’t be able to get me to touch the movie/tv show with a ten foot pole.

Now, I’m all for reading the book but my hubby is the opposite. He’d rather watch the movie/tv show than read the book. With the Harry Potter series for example, I’ve read all the books and I’ve watched all the movies. My hubby on the other hand has at least watched the movies with me. I initially didn’t think he’d like the watching them with me, however, he did end up liking thm (much to my surprise). So, I can usually get my hubby to watch the movie or tv show with me…..as long as it’s not really girly or anything like that.

But there are a couple of different reasons why I choose to read instead of watch. The book, I can take that with me a lot easier than I can watching a tv or movie. I know that with technology is these days, you can watch stuff on your smartphone. But I’d rather not waste the battery on my phone just to watch something. I don’t want to have a dead phone and need to make a call in an emergency. Also, in the case of the movies, I can spend more time reading and enjoying it. A movie is usually over within a couple of hours and there is a lot they have to leave out with a limited time frame.

    I prefer to watch the film first, that way I can get a quick, brief idea of the storyline. From there I can then choose to read the book if it was something that I felt I could enjoy, by delving into the story further. I personally prefer this way as it will take less time to finish a film, so I may be less invested in it, and therefore not be so strict on the book. Whereas if I had spent countless hours and days reading, I may be stricter and more critical of the film, as I will have a higher standard from investing my time. This may also result in me not wanting to try and watch the film adaptation either.

      I do enjoy a good movie, don’t get me wrong. I just want to enjoy the book and not be tainted by anything before I am able to finish it. Like right now….I’m currently reading a book and my husband has already watched the movie. I’ve asked him to not reveal anything about the movie to me until I have finished the book. I want to enjoy the book without someone or something revealing the end to me before I’m finished.

    For me its both, but most of the time I prefer to read than watching movies.
    I really do like reading light novels now a days its fun and perfect while
    I’m commuting or during rest days.

    I also agree with Grimalkin watching it on smart phones sometimes is makes quality of the movie a little disappointing. I strongly believed that movies are not meant for little screens like smart phones.

    I’ve always enjoyed reading. I can’t ever remember a time I didn’t like to read. So, I’ll always read before I see a movie. But that’s just my choice. I don’t like watching stuff on small screen. I’d feel like I’d have to squint to watch the movie on my smart phone. I’d rather watch it at the movie theater or in the comfort of my own home.

    I prefer the book over the show or movie, I think everyone does. If I like the story though and/or the movie looks good, I’ll watch the film then read the book after. The show is always going to be worst than the book. But if you watch the movie first then read the book after, you won’t be disappointed in the story, just the film. lol

    I’ve always preferred the book over the movie/tv show. However, my hubby doesn’t read but I can usually get him to watch the show or the movie with me (most of the time). He’s gone with me to see all of the Harry Potter movies. He’s even watching the Fantastic Beasts movies with me. I think he’s enjoying them as much as I am.

    Personally, I love watching movies and TV shows more than reading books. I read books for a good cause but it’s get ahead of movies and TV shows for me. Reading books are more stressful for me especially when the book’s font are tiny.
